“The incline of the garden is managed gently by spreading steps across multiple terraces”

Brief: Restructure driveway and entrance to the property, whilst providing extensive areas for outdoor living and entertaining

Current Stage: Completed

With a block paved driveway, narrow paved area by the house, and planting restricted to the boundaries of the plot, the full potential of this large site wasn’t being realised.

The presence of a very large Oak tree meant the house was positioned towards the rear of the plot, so the main garden space was street facing. As a result, greater privacy and a more enclosed design was a priority for our clients.

The existing orientation of the driveway pointed visitors directly at the house upon arrival. This needed to be reconfigured to give a direct route to a parking area at the rear of the property.

Solution: Replace dated materials with more contemporary, hard wearing surfaces, softened with generous amounts of planting

The driveway, which now directs visitors directly to a generous parking area, was resurfaced with a permeable resin bound gravel. Clay pavers were used to create a neat edge and break up the large surface area.

A generous car port with solar panels to power an electric charger is softened by generous planting beds, with planting screening a bin store and compost area.

In the living spaces the incline of the garden is managed gently by spreading steps across multiple terraces. A large louvered pergola over lounge seating provides an all-weather space for spending time in the garden, whilst a generous outdoor kitchen, bar area, and large dining table ensure plenty of space for hosting.

Abundant planting softens the edges of the hard landscaping, and provides natural privacy throughout the space.
